I believe it is as a result of that the painting on the exterior does not line up when the threaded egg is closed fully tight

Abstracted Figure(s), Modernist Mid Century Carved Sculpture antique chalkboard and especially love the threeThis carving, which I purchased from a mostly mid century dealer with a really nice eye, just struck me with every turn it seems just about to resolve into something, like a pair of embracing figures, or a figure carrying a child, but it never quite does and so feels perpetually elusive and dynamic. From a few angles it also really appears as if there are the features of a face, or two, trapped just below the surface, waiting to emerge! 9 1 2 t x 3 3
