The firm of Forehand and Wadsworth was established in 1871, but the gun making company was simply the newest incarnation of the various firearms companies operated by Ethan Allen, going back four decades. The company was founded by Ethan Allen in 1831 when he started to make cutlery in Milford, MA. Allen's primary line was the knives and tools needed for cobblers. Allen then moved his small facility to North Grafton,
